Q:Can I use a lead-acid battery charger or charger/charger with an ion lithium-ion deep cycle battery?
A fully charged lithium-ion battery will last a year or more and still retain sufficient capacity without damaging the battery. Therefore, any electrical device that has no current flow when turned off does not need to be powered. However, some devices may generate a significant amount of power even when turned off to maintain clocks, computers, navigation systems, pumps, etc. The Li-Ion battery charger is designed for use with the Li-Ion battery.
A:Our lithium-ion battery chargers are designed to work with the internal cell balancing plates and BMS in "deep cycle" batteries that have special algorithms to prevent overcharging and maximize battery life. We have a very simple method where all battery balancing maintenance is done automatically when the charger is connected. No need for expensive, complicated chargers/carts.
Lead-acid chargers for ionic (LiFePO4) batteries work. Lead-acid batteries are charged at 2.30V to 2.45V per cell, while ionic (LiFePO4) batteries are charged at 3.60V per cell. your batteries may be undercharged, so you will not be able to use the full capacity of your (LiFePO4) batteries, nor will you be able to trigger balancing in your (LiFePO4) battery packs, which are both unnecessary. Additionally, float charging from a lead acid charger is not what the battery expects and can cause problems.

Q:Can I use a solar panel to charge a lithium deep cycle battery?
A:Yes, but for 12V batteries you will need to make sure that the open circuit voltage of the solar panel is below 18 V. If your solar panel has a voltage regulator, charging can be stopped at 14.4 V or (LiFePO4) set to 14.6 V.
If you charge a 12V battery with a lithium deep cycle cell above 15V, the BMS in the battery terminals will shut down.
The cutoff voltage setting will vary slightly depending on current level, temperature, and part tolerance. To turn the battery on again, disconnect the charging source and allow the battery to rest for a few seconds (approximately 30 seconds). If the 12V battery voltage is above 18V when shutting down, the internal BMS will be damaged and will not turn on.

A:The BMS inside the battery terminals will shut down if the lithium deep cycle 12V battery is charged above 15V. The cutoff voltage setting will vary slightly depending on current level, temperature and part tolerance.
